Apartment in a private garden

La Concha Uno is a quiet development of only 20 apartments situated in a small, walled garden in a really central location. The apartments in the two storey terrace are privately owned and many have permanent residents.
The apartment is only a 15 minutes taxi ride from the airport but because the planes come in from the sea on the other side of town you never hear them.
If you've been to Puerto del Carmen then you know about the hills and the tiring walk home to most apartments. Fortunately the entrance to La Concha is only 20 metres from the Avenida del Playas, a landscapped avenue that runs the length of the new town part of Puerto del Carmen. Most of the restaurants, bars and clubs are along this strip and our apartment is behind the middle section, (if you know Puerto Del Carmen, the garden entrance is at the junction of Pedro Barba and the Avenida, across the road from the Casino and the Golden Corner Cocktail Bar).
There is a supermarket up the road, Car Rental next door and if you like eating out, there are so many restaurants in the area that you could eat a different type of food every day. Within 3 minutes there is a Tex-Mex, a Chinese, an Italian Pizzaria, a Gelataria (for your ice cream in the afternoon) and an Indian Tandoori.

The seating area has an armchair and a corner sofa which is long enough for two people to have a siesta.

There are lots of books, a mini hi-fi system where you can plug in your MP3 player and a UK video playback unit with dozens of films.

The kitchenette has everything that you need for lunches and light meals.
The bedroom is large enough to have two beds, a double and a single – share or fight over the double.
A view from inside the apartment looking out over the terrace.
Why Lanzarote?
Lanzarote is at 29° Latitude, which makes it the same as Morocco, Florida and the Bahamas. Being so close to the equator, you would expect the island to be unbearably hot in the summer.
But as can be seen from the climate chart this isn’t the case. The island is in the cool Atlantic Canary Current and the North-East Trade Winds give breeezes to cool you down as you lie in the sun.

From November to April Lanzarote is very similar to the UK in August. When the sun shines it gets very hot and you will get burned, but if there are a couple of cloudy days then the temperature drops (but rarely below 12 Degrees even at night).
With mild winters, summers that are generally not too hot, and relatively little rain, the island is an ideal place to holiday at any time of year. But there are other reasons to holiday in Lanzarote.
- Less mosquitoes – Lanzarote is a dry island and this means fewer mosquitoes
- No billboards – Cesar Manrique helped put in place by-laws that prevent street advertising
- No tower blocks – No building is allowed over 3 stories apart from in Arrecife the capital
- Because people holiday in Lanzarote all year round waiting jobs are not seasonal, like other parts of Europe, and so waiters are really focussed upon customer service.
- All buildings are white with blue or green woodwork
- Lanzarote is a UNESCO biosphere
Puerto Del Carmen
- Because of the hills, the restaurants and bars are all clustered around the same area on the coast
- There are two massive beaches with umbrellas and sun loungers and numerous little coves with secluded sandy beaches if you want private sunbathing.
- The pavement area around the main beach has been lanscaped and made into a really nice place to sit and watch the world go by.
- Like the rest of Puerto Del Carmen it is all kept scrupulously clean. Here, early in the morning, the street cleaners are power washing the area.
- The Avenida Del Playas is lined with shops where you can buy everything that you want for your holiday from towels to flippers. Then, when you have to go home, you can take memories with you by buying something from one of the gift shops.
- If you want to do some serious shopping, there is a shopping centre in the old town area with international stores like Zara and Mango.
